Senate Republicans Push Forward Significant Part of Trump’s Agenda
The GOP-controlled Senate successfully passed a budget blueprint that aligns closely with President Donald Trump’s legislative priorities, including a permanent extension of his 2017 tax cuts and a hefty $175 billion allocation for new border security measures. The resolution passed with a narrow vote of 51 to 48, with two Republican Senators, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine, joining Democrats in opposing the measure.
The vote occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 2:30 a.m., after a grueling “vote-a-rama” session that stretched late into the night. During this extended session, Senate Democrats forced Republicans to vote on a series of contentious amendments that addressed politically sensitive issues such as entitlement spending, measures for improving government efficiency, and Trump’s tariffs. Despite the intense debate and the back-and-forth over these issues, the resolution ultimately passed, marking a significant victory for the GOP and Trump’s agenda.
